Stood all day on a re-bar grid at the top of a six story open tower--no safety rails--pulling the larger boulders, by hand, from a flowing stream of smaller boulders as they dropped from a conveyor belt to the very re-bar grid I had to stand on all day.

The city where I found myself broke and homeless put me up in a room; this was the job they sent me on to pay the bill. Hourly wage worked out to two dollars an hour--that is, if I'd been paid in cash instead of given a room.

Still, I was thankful to have it, I suppose.Hodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15059436887802381275noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736396.post-15419623371465385612009-02-10T13:37:00.000-08:002009-02-10T13:37:00.000-08:00Thanks hopemcp!Amazing story. Still, if it was a choice between cows or Christians for co-workers, many of us would pick cows.

I can only imagine what they thought about you after you quit going to the devotional time!

Thanks for stopping by.Pastor Rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00225093126727825864noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736396.post-2458618405576934512009-02-10T12:45:00.000-08:002009-02-10T12:45:00.000-08:00I loved milking our family cow in the wee hours, e...I loved milking our family cow in the wee hours, especially during frozen Indiana winters. Nice warm spot to be. :) Cleaning stalls isn't that bad, either.

My worst job was editing for a Christian book publishing house. The owners were "spirit-filled" (i.e., several steps beyond charismatic) and hired church friends, regardless of whether or not they knew a comma from a colon. They didn't know what in the world to do with me, a cranky Calvinist.

I refused to attend the company's weekly devotions after they became a chance for a new hire's opportunity to lay hands on each of us in turn and prophecy about each of us. Oh, pleeeze!

I thanked God that I was layed off after about three months. Later I heard that the couple divorced when the wife began following someone who emphasized leaving family behind in order to follow Christ completely.

It was a horrible job.hopemcphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16413698267623300792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7736396.post-1236112681532488842009-02-06T14:04:00.000-08:002009-02-06T14:04:00.000-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.iamkatiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10824210657949142139noreply@blogger.com
